Umrah
The Oxford English Dictionary gives no definition of Umrah.
Umrah is a pilgrimage to Makkah that consists of a number of devotional rituals, including the wearing of the “ihram” (white cloth) outside the precincts of Makkah and the tawaf (going around the Ka’abah). Many Muslims may perform Umrah as it is highly recommended and an opportunity to visit the Ka’abah, the direction (Qibla) in which Muslims pray.

How this term should be used
Umrah should not be used without an explanation of its meaning as a pilgrimage to Makkah that differs from the more renowned Hajj.
Unlike Hajj – which is the fifth pillar of Islam, is compulsory, and takes place at a specific time of the year –Umrah is an optional lesser pilgrimage that can be completed at any time of the year.
