The Oxford English Dictionary gives no definition of Shirk.
Shirk refers to “polytheism, the giving of partners to God”
[1]
and as such, is considered by Muslims to be an act of heresy.
The term Shirk should not be used unless its meaning in context is explained.
Though most commonly understood as referring to idolatry (and possibly the trinitarian concept of God in Christianity), the concept of shirk has sometimes been invoked to describe narcissism and hypocrisy. [2]
