It is recommended that use of this word be limited to direct quotations (with an explainer where needed) or relevant theological discussions.
Muslim views on Bid’ah can differ significantly.
The Hanbali school of jurisprudence and the Wahhabi movement of Saudi Arabia with which it is often associated, contend that “bid’ah” has no place in Islam with the example of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) constituting the best and most timeless form of guidance in worldly and spiritual matters.
In contrast, other scholars have argued that it is impossible to adapt to the changing world without innovating and have therefore classified bid’ah as either good (bid’ah hasana) or bad (bid’ah sayi’ah).
